Laura, our friend and first time mom, asked us a couple of weeks ago if we can recommend her a great baby carrier. This is how we found what baby carriers are and most importantly that they exist in the first place. So we started looking into what is important when picking a baby carrier.
Here are the top 7 things to consider when choosing a baby carrier:
6. Weight limit
|Comparison table explained|
We could have added the price as well but that is something we all check when buying a product, right? Comfort is above everything obviously, even more important than the price. If the baby cries or you don’t like using the baby carrier, it won’t matter if you spent 50 bucks or 400. If the baby hates it, you will hate it. You will end up either returning it or in the worst case, throw it away.
We love having a product that can be used in various ways so versatility is another important factor that weights in when buying a baby carrier. Being able to have the baby front facing or facing in is a definitive plus. Or think of being able to have the straps in the X or H position, wouldn’t you appreciate that? We think you would love it. Durability means money well spent. If your carrier last you long enough to be used for the second or even for the third kid, that is even better. Pockets for keys, phones, wallets are definitely a must have. You won’t want to carry anything else like a backpack or a purse beside the baby carrier which will be hard enough and inconvenient at times to carry around in itself, so having a pocket for all this stuff helps.
The baby weight limit is also an important thing. The longer you can carry your baby in it, the better. Though we think your back pain will eventually tell when is about time to stop using it, still being able to use the carrier for as long as possible ads more value. And of course, at last but not least, the mesh and fabric the carrier is made of is very important. You don’t want to overhear yourself, not the baby. What you want is an optimal temperature. While is really hard to find the perfect balance, we striven to find the baby carriers that offer breathability and temperature comfort for both the baby and the parents.
This time we changed a bit our review process. We made it more brand diversified than we usually do. We wanted to provide the users and future buyers more options, covering more brands. More choices equal better chances to find the best of the best. We spent 12 hours researching and we hope this article will help you decide what to purchase.
Word of advice for all baby carriers, we strongly advice not to use the forward facing position until your baby is at least 6 months of age and has strong neck and head control. We are no doctors so please consult your pediatrician or family physician before using one. A lot of these carriers can be used from early ages, first months but please ask your doctor what are the safe positions for your baby. Better safe than sorry.
Off we go, here are the top best baby carriers:
Made of a comfortable breathable fabric, soft yet durable, versatile supporting up to 6 baby positions, Lillebaby The Complete Airflow 360° Ergonomic Six-Position Baby & Child Carrier might be considerate by the majority the most comfy baby carrier of all. It’s also easily washable and we all know how hard is to keep a baby carrier clean for a long time, more often then not you end up cleaning it almost every but not this one. Low maintenance is always great.
It supports up to 45 lbs and it can be used when your baby is 7 lbs and up. However, please be advised that to use your baby in the forward facing position, your kid has to be at least 6 months old and has to have a strong neck and head control. So while you can carry your baby in this carrier from the time they are 7 lbs, don’t use forward facing position. Also, we cannot emphasise enough, please consult a pediatrician or your family doctor before using a baby carrier.
Comes with a hood which you can use or not depending on your needs and preferences and it has 2 front pockets, one to fold the hood and another one perfect for stuff like keys, wallet and phone. It provides great back lumbar support and is very easy to put on and take off due to the two clips. It’s performing great in hot and dry temperatures as well as during cold days due to the mesh fabric.
I provides amazing lumbar support making it ideal for long hours use. It has padded shoulders and 2 way adjustable straps plus an adjustable child seat and neck support. It comes with a removable hood to protect your baby from sun or rain. The temperature control is doing a great job and the zipped pocket is a must have for keys, wallets, phones or anything you need to take with you before leaving the house.
There aren’t much cons to discuss. Probably the only complaints are the number of straps, the fact that it may appear too big for some parents. On the hot sunny days, the extra padding for the back straps ads bulkiness and may actually get you a bit sweaty so while extra cushion is never a bad thing it may be too much in this case. As with all fabrics, the stains may be a bit hard to remove but this is not something particular to this baby carrier only, it’s present to all of them.
Due to the seat support the child legs will always stay in the correct natural position facilitating a healthy hips and pelvic development. Made of a soft and breathable material, lightweight and adjustable for maximum comfort, easy to put on and take off, this baby carries has everything needed to be one of the best on the market at the moment of this review.
Overall, Lillebaby The Complete Airflow 360° Ergonomic Six-Position Baby & Child Carrier is one of the best in it’s class and while it may not be the cheapest (costs $124.99 at the moment of this review) is not the most expensive as well. Combined with the features, durability and comfort it will be a great buy. Recommended.
The Urbanista model of Baby Tula Ergonomic Carrier is another versatile baby carrier that can be used in front as well as on the back. Looks solid and durable and it’s famous for the ergonomic M position that provides an optimal and healthy child development. It can be easily put on and take off and if you are concerned of not being able to do this by yourself don’t be because it’s doable – can be put on easily in reverse backpack. It’s simplistic and that helps a lot with maneuvering it.
It’s stylish, durable made of a sturdy fabric and you only need to adjust the shoulder straps once. After that you just put the carrier on, fasten the belly strap and you are good to go. No more extra straps to be worried about. If you live in a hot country or the summers are long and sunny over there, this baby carrier has a sun cover which can also be used to support baby’s head especially over the first weeks and months before they develop the neck muscles.
While for some it might be a little inconvenient to snap the clip in the back, once you’ve done it first time (maybe you have someone to help you with), you only need to put the carrier on.
It costs only $149 at the time of this review and we think it worth every cent. Great investment, you will love it!
Baby K’tan Active is what you would call a wrap-style baby carrier. The best part about this kind of baby carriers is the easiness of use – put it on, put the baby in and you are good to go. However there is a major drawback with wrap baby carriers and that is the lack of support. Let’s go in detail and see the pros and cons of this unique concept and who knows, this might be a life changer for you after all.
Probably the first question a mom will ask when looking for baby carrier is, will it get hot? Because this is a wrap so there are no straps, insertions of any kind or anything that is not fabric, Baby K’tan Active baby carrier is one of the coolest baby carriers we came over when looking for the best one. It’s made of a breathable fabric that will keep you and the baby cool. Another great thing about this one is the portability. You fold it and throw it in your bag or into your stroller diapers compartment. You can also throw it on your shoulder and use it as a bag, good replacement for your purse or bag and you can even use it to carry your phone because of the pouch. Can be used and carrier in so many ways it truly makes it a must have.
It might take you 10-15 minutes to learn how to use it. The breathability, the fact that is light weight and because you can use it in so many ways makes it comfortable for long days on hot weather or not.
One thing that might be a bit challenging is finding the right size. It depends on two things, your body and the baby size. The sizing calculator might give you a smaller or larger version so what we think is the best is contacting the customer support and give them some details. We are sure, they will help you find the right size. They might ask for chest measurement and high so be ready to answer with correct numbers.
One thing we loved about Baby K’tan Active Baby Carrier is the price. Costs only $59.95 at the time of this review. If this baby carrier is what you like you can get one every 2-3 months increasing the size and you will still be bellow with spending if you were to buy a top of the line one. What can we say, we love it.
Probably the thing that first surprised us regarding about this baby carrier was the price. Mo+m Ergonomic Baby Sling Carrier just looks and feels like something you would expect to be found at a much higher price but here you go, you can have it for a third of what other sell, only $48.99 at the time of our top ten best baby carriers. I hope the price is at least as important for you as a mom as it is for us the geeks.
However, while it looks at least as solid as Baby Tula, we found it a bit thicker, heavier and therefore more prone to dissipate less body temperature so we think it might get hotter than Baby Tula baby carriers. Still after comparing the prices, Mo+m Ergonomic Baby Sling Carrier costs literally 3 times less. What can we say, we are sold.
Anyway, let’s see all the pros and cons and see how this one stacks against others in our top. The next thing after the price we wanted to bring to your attention is the easiness it distributes the weight evenly so if your concern is shoulders or back pain, we believe we got you hooked on something great. Beside being comfortable, part because of the extra cushion for the straps, it’s also easy to put on and take off because of yet another simplistic but strong build baby carrier. As we said for multiple times, we are always happy when we find products that answer our needs but are easy to use. Mo+m Ergonomic Baby Sling Carrier is one of them.
It’s made of a soft fabric that will help your baby get a good sleep while you are walking around enjoying a nice walk with your partner and friends. The vented window will keep the baby cool. It has pockets for storage, it’s machine washable, compact and it’s very versatile. Can be carried in front, on the back and even on the hip. You only need to take care of two straps, the waist one and the shoulder one. Both straps are sturdy while soft enough with nice and comfy padding. We found them a bit thick but it might be just us. In fact the whole carrier is very light despite of its construction.
The cover for the baby head is lightweight and it’s removable. The whole carrier gives the feeling of secure and safe and at this price is a steal. Recommended.
The 2 in 1 Sling and Baby Carrier from Bebamour New Style Designer, comes in three colors and is by far the best looking baby carrier we have seen. It’s stylish, light (only 700g), easy to use and sells for as little as $39.99 at the moment of this review. It’s light but sturdy and has just enough padding on the straps without being bulky. The padding on the belly strap is wide, broad and thick for improved comfort over long hours of use making a great companion for trips.
It will accommodate babies up to 19.9 kg from new borns to 36 months old. It’s made 100% off polyester and breathable cotton mesh to keep you and your baby cool. Can be used in 5 different positions. We liked a lot the hip seat that can be used standalone if you only need a bit of extra support when carrying your baby in hands for short distances.
If you are on a budget or you just don’t like throwing hundreds of dollars left and right, this might be the perfect choice for you.
#1 Style Child Carrier baby wrap might not be the most stylish baby carrier out there but for sure is one of the easiest one to use and carry around. One you learn how to use it is clearly a breeze, a no brainer to have with you. The best part you don’t need a crazy storage, your backpack will be just enough or even a handbag if only a bit bigger.
This one and the Baby K’tan we review today are both great choice if you always go for convenience. It’s made of once piece of fabric with no buckles or snaps to rub and irritate a baby or the mom or dad. It’s technically a 4-1 baby carrier which is also a ring sling, postpartum belt and a nursing cover.
Despite the lack of support, the child feels secure and the soft fabric made of about 95% cotton and only 5% spandex will ease your baby into sleep easily. Due to the lack of support we don’t recommend using it on the back. It appears to use, a baby can slip easily out of it and having it on the back it might make you unsettle. Another thing you might encounter is getting the baby in, you might need some help.
While it doesn’t offer a wide choice of colors, we liked a lot the grey one though the blue can be also an interesting pick. There are five color options in one of the product pictures but when we wanted to buy we only could chose between blue and grey. However it might have been a shortage only at the moment we checked on the product.
Being completely made of a stretchy fabric with no padding or straps, it breaths freely and if you live in a warm climate this might be light enough and breathable enough to be one of your first choices. The lack of straps make it also easily adjustable for breast feeding, eating, watching a movie or other activities which other baby carriers might restrict you from enjoying.
But probably the best thing about wrap style baby carriers is the fact that you can feel your baby next to your body. If you like that close connection, #1 Style Child Carrier is for you. Give it a try!
Beachfront Baby Wrap is recommended for babies 8 – 30 pounds, comes in three sizes, is breathable and lightweight, safety tested and industry complaint and by the way is made in USA. It features a two shoulder system making it easy to wear because the weight is uniformly distributed. It’s made of high quality performance mesh, non-toxic and kids safe, built to stretch, dry easily and keep you and your baby cool during hot summer days. You can also take your kid to the swimming pool – because of the high support the baby face will be closed positioned to the parent face.
Can be used at home, in the park or for travel and even when mom is on a shopping spree. Accommodates breastfeeding. For safety measures, the material stretches horizontally but we find it a bit too lose to be 100% safe. It might be just a matter of getting used to it.
While is built to be used for shower or swimming pool some users may find the fabric a bit to stretchy to use this in a water. We couldn’t find any issues but we recommend you trying it for different activities in the return period just in case you may have issues.
If all you want is something that you can fold in your everyday backpack and use it here and there when your arms get tired, for extra support this baby wrap carrier might be what you need. If you are looking for a more sturdy long term solution you may want to check on other baby carriers, maybe stay away from baby wraps all together.
Despite everything it worth trying in out. Recommended. After all, the price is a true bargain, $43 at the time at this review. Why not checking it out?
Ultralight Miracle BEBE Carrier is the most affordable baby carrier we review today. Costs less than even a baby wrap but is not anything close to a cheap product. In fact the only thing that we think needed more work is the padding on the two X shapped straps – not enough padding in our humble oppinion. Other than that it really is a winner.
Is built to carry babies from 2 to 24 months or up to 30lbs and various seating position: inward and outward front facing and on the back. We liked the removable and washable bum pad – great for when your baby does the unexpected. In the hot summer day, this baby carrier is a godsend – very low profile and footprint, a lot of ventilated areas, looks more like a structural baby carrier than a solid one and that is awesome. Moreover, it folds easily to be put in a bag for trips or when you get to the car.
And we didn’t get to the best part yet, it costs only $14.97. That is roughly the price of three latte!
It’s made of a stretchable fabric but don’t worry it stretches just enough to be comfortable for the baby. The colors are neutral so it be used by both dads and moms. The X shape straps on the back distribute ergonomic equally the baby weight to prevent back pain. It’s suitable to any weather.
You cannot go wrong with Ultralight Miracle BEBE Carrier. Give it a try.
Babypeta baby wrap it’s beautiful, stylish an comes in various colors for you to chose. It’s made of a fine fabric that will wrap your baby like a cocoon, perfect for your baby sensitive skin. It’s not too light for cold weather but also not too thick to be used in the summer, just perfect for any weather and season.

What is amazing about it is that is suitable for trips as well as for daily use, convenient and easy to store, soft but sturdy. If you are a busy mom who likes to cuddle with your baby while preparing dinner for your husband, this baby carrier is suitable for hand free use as well.
Costs only $35.45 at the moment of this review, a decent price for a decent baby wrap. Recommended.

Not our favorite colors but the build quality is great and it appears sturdy enough to qualify for our top ten bet baby carriers. It’s recommended from 3 months to 36 months and a weight of 20 kg maximum. Can be used in 3 ways, stool only, in front at chest level and kangaroo style. It doesn’t require a baby insert and accommodate a 45 inches waist line. The baby seat is a must have to provide the baby with a comfortable seating position and to help with a healthy development.
